EVERY WEDNESDAY: QI GONG CLASSES AT BALBOA PARK (beginning Wednesday June 19th)

Qi Gong is often described as a “moving meditation” practice that improves one’s mental and physical health by integrating posture, movement, breathing technique, self-massage, sound, and mindfulness. There are hundreds of Qi Gong styles, forms, traditions and lineages, each with practical applications and different theories about Qi (“subtle breath” or “vital energy”) and Gong (“skill cultivated through steady practice”). At our clinic, we enjoy teaching the Golden Eight Series, as well as, the Six Organ/Healing Sounds Qi Gong. The Golden Eight is a simple and effective series of eight Qi Gong exercises that are easy to learn and deeply healing. Practitioners feel both invigorated and relaxed after flowing through this gentle series of postures. The Six Organ/Healing Sound Qi Gong helps tonify and heal different organ systems of the body from the Liver to the Lungs. This series is fun and invigorating as well.

The benefits of Qi Gong are many–touching on all systems: mind, body and spirit. On the physical level, Qi Gong warm tendons, ligaments, and muscles, increases functions of vital organs and connective tissue, as well as promoting circulation of body fluids (blood, synovial, lymph). Thousands of studies have shown Qi Gong effective in helping to heal life challenges ranging from high blood pressure and chronic illness to emotional frustration, mental stress, and spiritual crisis. By optimizing the delivery of oxygen and nutrition to the body’s tissues many ailments naturally heal and pain is relieved. Qi Gong facilitates relaxation, present moment thinking and works to prevent illness and promote healthy aging and longevity.

Qi Gong can be practiced anywhere: while sitting, standing, moving, not moving, or lying down. It is excellent for stress reduction and anxiety relief.

CUPPING

Cupping therapy has gained popularity in the U.S. thanks to the Olympics and Gwyneth Paltrow! While new to our culture this treatment has been practiced in China and other parts of the world for thousands of years.Cupping therapy reduces inflammation, clears toxicity, relaxes tense back and shoulder muscles, balances the digestive system and is widely used for asthma and other respiratory ailments.

What to Expect: Patients will remove their tops in a private, secure setting and will lay face down on a massage table. The therapist will then enter and begin the treatment which includes some light pressing on areas of the back, organic oil application and placement of several glass cups that create a vacuum effect on the back. The cups sometimes stay stationary and at other times are moved up and down the back. Total treatment time is approximately 25 minutes.

*Marks may show up for up to a week following treatment*

MASSAGE

The massage style we offer at HCA is Tui-Na inspired. TUI-NA is a safe and effective Asian bodywork therapy, using oscillating and pressure techniques that increase circulation of qi and blood. This promotes healing and relieves pain. Passive joint movements are also used to restore joint function. Clients wear loose clothing and lay on a table while receiving treatment. This is a great way to get an affordable, relaxing massage and keep up with a healthy self-care routine. Like cupping, treatments are deeply healing and restorative!

COST: $25 FOR 20 MINUTES SESSION

Massage Therapist is Mindy Green who has over 15 years of massage and bodywork experience. She is excellent at her craft!
